The Iranian Embassy in Saudi Arabia opened today as part of an agreement between Tehran and Riyadh to restore diplomatic relations.
The opening ceremony of the Iranian embassy in Riyadh was broadcast live by the Al-Hadas TV channel. The Iranian consulate in Jeddah will also open tomorrow Wednesday, according to Iranian officials.
Last month, Tehran appointed Alireza Enayati, a former deputy foreign minister and ambassador to Kuwait, to head Iran’s diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia.
For its part, Saudi Arabia has not yet announced a date for the opening of its embassy in Tehran, nor the name of its future ambassador to Iran.
The opening of the Iranian embassy in Saudi Arabia coincided with a visit by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to the kingdom. The head of American diplomacy arrived in Jeddah this evening, where he will meet with the crown prince and de facto leader of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman. A. Blinken will leave tomorrow Wednesday for Riyadh to attend a meeting with the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
