The premiere of the film “Boogieman” (Baubaul), which director Rob Savage describes as the scariest adaptation of Stephen King of all time, will take place in cinemas on Friday, reports Agerpres.
In the context of many recent film versions of the most famous novels signed by Stephen King, the authors of the film boogeyman undertook a film adaptation of a lesser-known short story originally published in 1973 in Cavalier magazine and later included in the 1978 short story collection The Night Shift.
The film was directed by Rob Savage (“The Host”-2020), based on a script written by Scott Beck, Brian Woods (“A Quiet Place”) and Mark Gaiman (“Black Swan”). Starring Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, Vivian Lira Blair, Marin Ireland, David Dastmalkian.
boogeyman it will be a true horror hit if director Rob Savage is to be believed, who has already proven his commitment to this cinematic genre through the films Hosta (2020) and Recorder (2021) and who stated in an interview with SFX magazine that the film will be the scariest Stephen King adaptation of all time.
“The Shining is obviously the most terrifying Stephen King adaptation. But I don’t think there’s been a King adaptation as terrible as this movie,” the director said, according to gamesradar.com.
“The film attacks the source material differently than other King adaptations. I wanted to give a sense of fidelity to his works. Me and (co-writer) Mark (Gaiman) always came back to the passion of the characters that you get in King’s novels. Even when the subject is dark, there is a glimmer of hope. He is not a cynical writer,” said the director.
What the movie “Boogieman” is about.
boogeyman tells the story of two sisters, high school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer, who have not yet recovered from the death of their mother.
Wracked by his own grief, their father Will, a psychologist by profession, offers neither the support nor the affection the girls try to get from him. When a desperate patient unexpectedly appears on the family’s doorstep, he lets into the home a monstrous entity that tyrannizes the families and feeds on their greatest suffering.
boogeyman it was already too scary for some, and the film had to be edited to tone down the emotion.
“When the creature first appeared, the audience screamed so loudly (…) that they completely missed the next lines,” Savage said recently. “So we had to redo the segment and add 45 seconds of filler so the audience wouldn’t miss any important information,” he added.
Although the film was originally supposed to be released exclusively on the Hulu platform, boogeyman instead, it will be released in theaters, including in Romania this Friday, June 2, a phenomenon that is becoming increasingly common with films originally intended for streaming.
Before hitting theaters, the film was screened at CinemaCon 2023 on April 26, 2023 at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In a prolific career that spanned nearly five decades, Stephen King published more than 60 novels and more than 200 short stories, adapted into more than 50 films by some of the world’s most talented directors.
