“The Topic Bank platform has received 165 million visits from 114 countries,” the Ministry of Education said in a joint statement with the Ministry of Digital Governance, but noted that “National exams will be conducted as normal and with absolute security. “and that “no student of the 3rd Lyceum will be excluded from the process of the pan-Greek examinations due to malicious attacks.”
Announcement in detail:
“Yesterday, the IEP Theme Bank platform, hosted by the National Technology and Research Infrastructure Network (EDYTE), was subjected to a large-scale and prolonged distributed attack. The goal is to prevent internal promotion and high school graduation exams. The attacks were sporadic, and in the vast majority of schools, the exams passed normally.
Malicious attacks were repeated in the early hours of the morning today, this time against the infrastructure of the National Network of Technology and Research Infrastructures (EDYTE) platform. The attacks were repelled by the competent authorities while we are consulting with the Supreme Court Prosecutor’s Office and the Electronic Crime Prosecutor’s Office to take the necessary measures.
The Topic Bank platform received 165 million visits from 114 countries. This is the most serious attack ever carried out on a Greek public government organization.
It is noted that the subjects were broadcast to all schools and the final exams of the 3rd Lyceum were passed.
National exams will be held as usual and with absolute security. No student of the 3rd Lyceum will be excluded from the Panhellenic examination process due to malicious attacks.
Once again it is emphasized that this EDYTE platform is completely different from the subject transfer system of the Panhellenic Examinations.”
milking intervention
Recall that the intervention of the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Isidoros Dogiakos, was caused by the second consecutive crash of the Subject Bank system due to a cyber attack during final exams in schools.
The High Prosecutor has already sent his order to the head of the Prosecutor’s Office of First Instance of Athens, Antonis Eleftherianos, asking for assistance in the Prosecutor’s Office for Electronic Crimes and an in-depth investigation of the case.
According to the prosecutor’s decision, in order to identify the perpetrators, the competent authorities may even proceed with the direct confiscation of findings and other evidence to clarify the case.
