The presidential decree to dissolve the ITH parliament during the period of the presiding republic, emanating from the May 21, 2023 elections, was taped to the parliament building.

In particular, the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Presidential Decree issued to dissolve Parliament and officially announced national elections for June 25, 2023.

As stated in the Decree of the President of the Republic, the verification instructions given to the leaders of the first, second and third parties in parliamentary power did not work, while at the meeting of party leaders on May 24, 2023, the impossibility of forming a government that enjoys the confidence of parliament.

By the same Decree, voters are invited to elect deputies on June 25, 2023, Sunday, and the parliament, which will be formed based on the results of the elections, is convened on July 3, 2023, Monday at 11:00.

The Decree of the President was signed by Acting Prime Minister Ioannis Sarmas.

A parliament of this duration is the second time in post-political annals. The last time there was a parliament in May 2012, the 14th presidential parliamentary period, and even then, after the previous elections, the possibility of forming a government did not arise.

Earlier today, a meeting was held to elect the President and the Presidium of the Parliament. Konstantinos Tasoulas was elected President of the Parliament for one day, who was elected by 270 votes out of 296.
