The Chairman of the Court of Accounts, Giannis Sarmas, will be sworn in on Thursday, May 25, before the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

According to “K”, among the most prominent names in the “key” ministries of the interim government is the former Chief of the General Staff of the Ground Forces, retired General Alkiviades Stefanis in the Ministry of Defense (in the past he served as Deputy Minister of Defense).

The current Acting Minister, Kalliopi Spanow, who previously served as Ombudsman, will remain in the Home Office.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is likely to be headed by Ambassador Vassilis Kaskarelis, while the Ministry of Education will be headed by a former rector.

The name of Charalambos Lalousis, the former head of GES, is heard in the Ministry of Civil Protection, and it seems that retired Wing Commander Evangelos Tournas is on his way to the Ministry of Civil Protection.

The Ministry of Health will likely be taken over by Anastasia Kotanida, professor of intensive care pulmonology at the EKPA School of Medicine and an intensive care physician at Evangelismos Hospital.

Giorgos Kumentakis, artistic director of the National Opera, is expected to take over as minister of culture.

Next steps

The convocation of a new parliament will take place next Sunday, 29 May, for the sole purpose of swearing in the deputies. On Monday, May 30, a national delegation will be convened to elect the president, and K. Tasul is expected to be re-elected.

Then (even within the same day) will follow the issuance and submission to parliament of a new presidential decree on the dissolution of parliament and the official determination of the day of the new electoral competition.

The most likely date for voting is June 25.
