Valentyn Stefan, the liberal who runs Romania Post, said on Tuesday that the national postal operator had never received state aid and that the 170 million lei transferred to the company in 2018 represented natural capitalization.

• “The stage of transformation that the Romanian Post is going through is the stage that all postal companies have gone through. All the postal companies had the same problems as the Romanian post office.
• The Romanian Post offers much more to the Romanian state than it receives from the Romanian state. Let it be clear. We are a partner of the Romanian state and we do not receive anything for free from the state.
• The Post Office of Romania has never received state aid. In 2017-2018, the capitalization of Romanian Post took place, which is a normal process for any company and any shareholder to invest money in the companies they own.
• For the past 5 years, the Romanian post office has been profitable year after year. I have never received a single undeserved penny,” Valentyn Štefan said on Tuesday at the event dedicated to the presentation of the partnership with eBay.

The director of the post claimed that the payment of pensions through the post office of Romania was also not a commercially viable contract.

• “I will give another example. You know that this is the contract with the Ministry of Labor for the payment of pensions. The courses have not been updated since 2012.
• Roman Post is losing money with this contract.
• This is not a blessing, on the contrary, it is a big challenge. So let’s not underestimate the potential of the company and be confident in the strength of Romania as a regional economy,” said the director of the Post Office.

Regarding layoffs, he says that as long as he manages the Post Office, staff optimization will be carried out continuously.

• “The Post Office of Romania is in a constant process of layoffs. When one department does not work, we cancel it and create another.
• The stability of social peace in the company is not healthy.
• And any company, when a department is performing poorly, closes it down and either offers other opportunities to those employees or lets them move on.
• We have to get used to the fact that as long as I head the Romanian Post, there will be constant optimization of personnel.” he said.

The Romanian post office received 170 million lei from the state budget to pay off these debts

In 2018, the state increased the share capital of Romanian Post in accordance with the provisions of Government Decision no. 38/2018, transferring the amount of 170 million lei to the company’s accounts.

The amount was aimed at repaying the debt to the consolidated general budget, as stipulated by the law on the State Budget for 2018.
