Ed Sheeran, Adele and Harry Styles are among the richest Britons under the age of 35, according to the Sunday Times’ list of the country’s richest people.
All three musicians are worth more than £150 million, but are still not rich enough to make the main list of the kingdom’s richest people, which includes British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murthy, although their fortunes have declined, reports BBC, as quoted by News.ro.
The main list of the richest Britons estimates fortunes from 350 million pounds and above.
Ed Sheeran, 32, is in seventh place on the list of the richest Britons under 35 with a fortune of £300m, helped by his fast-selling sixth album Subtract.
Adele, who just turned 35 earlier this month, is in ninth place with £165m. The London-based singer has sold more than 100 million albums and earlier this year announced she was extending her hugely generous contract in Las Vegas, where sources say the artist is paid £500,000 a gig.
Last year, Harry Styles recorded Harry’s House, which became the biggest selling album in the UK, and he is currently on tour in the UK. The fortune of the 29-year-old, a former member of the extremely successful teenage band One Direction, is estimated at 150 million pounds.
The richest Briton
The list of richest people is topped by Gopi Hinduja and his family, who own a huge conglomerate of companies around the world and whose combined fortune is £35bn, up from £28.4bn last year.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe returns to Britain’s top 10 richest people after two years of relegation. With a fortune of £29.6 billion, Sir Jim is perhaps best known at the moment for his fight to buy Manchester United, his childhood football team. He made his fortune through Ineos, a chemicals and raw materials company.
There are fewer billionaires
Although the list includes many ultra-rich people, this is the first year that the number of Brian billionaires has decreased since the global financial crisis of 2008, when the banking industry almost collapsed.
There are now 171 billionaires on the list, six fewer than last year. The economic fallout from Covid, high inflation and rising interest rates that make borrowing more expensive have also affected the wealth of the wealthy.
Some billionaires lost their fortunes, including the prime minister
Sir Richard Branson, who recently told the BBC he feared losing everything during the pandemic, saw his fortune almost halve to £2.4 billion. The man behind Virgin Atlantic has said it has lost £1.5 billion as flights are grounded and its hotels and medical clinics closed due to lockdown measures linked to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The fortunes of Prime Minister Sunak and his wife Akshata Murthy also fell by £200m from around £730m last year to £529m. Most of their wealth belongs to Akshati Murthy, who has a significant stake in Infosys, her father’s IT business.
What is the condition of King Charles?
Newly crowned King Charles III is 263rd on the rich list with a fortune of £600 million. However, he is richer than his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who was worth £320m according to last year’s list.
Increase JK Rowling’s fortune
However, JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, is much richer. Her fortune is estimated at 875 million pounds, which is 25 million more than in the previous year. She can become even richer: the writer is negotiating with the HBO television network to turn her most famous creation into a series.
Meanwhile, two stars of the Harry Potter films have already entered the list of the richest people under 35. The fortune of Daniel Radcliffe, 33, is 92 million pounds, and Emma Watson, 33, is estimated at 60 million pounds. (News.ro)
