On the contrary, for the rest of the taxpayers, the tax administration proceeds to offset the tax refund with other tax liabilities, and in some cases, mainly large amounts of tax refunds are rechecked by the tax inspectorate.

  • Income tax refunds for taxpayers who do not have tax or insurance debts or reporting obligations are forwarded to the Bank of Greece for immediate reimbursement on a weekly basis.
  • Income tax refunds for taxpayers who do not have insurance debts or reporting obligations and have tax debts are credited. Those offsets that cannot be made centrally will be processed by the tax authorities, which means there will be little delay.
  • Income tax returns filed after 30 April and with an obligation to pay ENFIA will be credited.
  • Income tax debts will be credited as a matter of priority with the right to refund other taxes that exist or arise before 31.07.2023, so that in case of payment of income tax by offset there will be a 3% discount. provided.
  • Taxpayers eligible for a large tax refund will have to wait. And this despite the fact that the inspectors of the tax inspectorate conduct a re-audit. If there is evidence, the taxpayer is asked to provide the necessary supporting documents. Spot checks are also carried out.

Meanwhile, from the processing of revised tax administration statistics, it follows that 70.23% of taxpayers will not pay additional tax or receive a tax refund, and the remaining 29.77% will receive a debit settlement order.

  • 53.28% of taxpayers do not pay additional tax to the Greek state. In particular, out of 1,463,116 declarations, 779,548 are null.
  • For 16.95% of taxpayers or 247,998 individuals, a tax refund has been received, which on average reaches 355 euros.
  • 29.77% of taxpayers are required to pay additional tax on income received in the previous year. In particular, according to 435,569 declarations, the result of liquidation is a debit, while the total amount of tax is 356.5 million euros. The average tax on these declarations is 818 euros.

For those taxpayers who receive debt repayment, there will be an opportunity to pay off the tax in various ways and in more than 8 installments provided by the Ministry of Finance. The legislation provides for the possibility for public debtors to use the fixed scheme of the Ministry of Finance, and for those who can pay at once, a discount is also provided.

It is noted that at the end of the month, about 6.5 million property owners with debit settlement notes will have to pay the first installment of ENFIA. In total, they will have to pay about 2.2 billion euros, while the amount attributed to them must be paid in 10 monthly installments.
