The range of Mercedes minibuses and minibuses, be it SUVs or models for travelers and outdoor enthusiasts, should change significantly by 2030.
Indeed, the German firm announced the release of a new one in 2026 modular platform for electric vehicles : Mercedes VAN.EA (Van Electric Architecture).
Mercedes VAN.EA: more than 500 km of autonomy
This new platform is broken down into Three sides : the front part is identical for all vehicles and includes the front axle and the electric motor, the central part is modular and can be expanded to adapt to any size of vehicle, while transporting the batteries, and the rear part will be available in two versions, with with and without an electric drive, which allows us to offer all-wheel drive.
The first vehicles on the VAN.EA platform will be mid-size vans that will have a autonomy of more than 500 km. They will understand the last autonomous driving technologies level 2, while level 3 should be operational in 2030. This new platform will offer more options to offer a distinctive exterior style.
Utility vans will also offer the same features as their people carrier counterparts, and will offer many variations to suit the needs of end customers, such as ambulances, refrigerated vehicles or campers and conversion vans.
Mercedes VAN.EA: dedicated to electric vehicles
The Stuttgart-based firm developed this new Mercedes VAN.EA platform from the ground up and dedicated it entirely to electric vehicles. In particular, it will enable significant economies of scale and attract new customers with a variety of products such as passenger transport vans, service vans, box vans or motorhomes.
In addition to future models on the VAN.EA platform, the Mercedes Sprinter with an internal combustion engine will continue its career. However, the last 100% electric eSprinter will be quickly replaced by a 100% electric new generation when this new platform is launched, in 2026 year. We will have to wait a bit to discover new products based on this new electric platform.
