“Over the past month, the enemy has intensified the bombing of the border regions – Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Sumy. Over the past week, from May 8 to 16, 2023, Russian troops carried out 162 bombings of these territories,” she said in Telegram.

Malyar also stated that the Sumy region in the northeast of the country was the best target of Russian attacks, where 110 bombings were carried out, and in the Chernihiv and Kharkiv regions, Russian troops carried out 29 and 23 bombings, respectively.

She stated that in addition to terrorizing the civilian population, the purpose of these bombings is to keep the Ukrainian troops in the border areas in a state of constant tension with artillery fire and airstrikes, as well as to prevent them from overturning in other directions from the front.

Speaking about the situation in the city of Bakhmut, Malyar recalled that Ukrainian forces managed to recapture 20 square kilometers around it, but the Russians continue to advance in some parts of the city.

No news from the Bakhmut Front

Malyar emphasized that the Ukrainian military in Bakhmut and their commanders are doing their best under the conditions.

“They do it professionally and at the limit of their capabilities,” Anna Mailyar said.

A day ago, she noted in an updated report on the situation in Bakhmut, also published in Telegram, that “the fact that the defense of Bakhmut has lasted for so many months and there is progress in certain areas is due to the strength of our fighters and the strength of the high level of professionalism of the defense command.”

“Let me remind you that the enemy has an advantage in the number of people and weapons. At the same time, thanks to the actions of our military, the enemy has not been able to implement his plans in the direction of Bakhmut since the summer of last year,” the Deputy Minister of Defense from Kyiv also stated on Tuesday.
