This new pricing system, which will enter into force in 2024, predicts that some motorists will pay less for parking, while others will pay more. This decision is motivated “Public Health, Social Justice and Environmental Transition Considerations”according to the Executive Director of Environmental Protection in charge of Lyon City Hall.

The heavier, the more expensive, the smaller, the cheaper
How will it be characterized in practice? The heaviest and most polluting vehicles will have to pay an increased rate of €45 per month. This applies to diesel vehicles weighing more than 1,725 kg, plug-in hybrids weighing more than 1,900 kg and electric vehicles weighing more than 2,200 kg. The aim is to encourage the use of smaller or low-emission vehicles. According to the city hall of Lyon, such a price increase worries 5% of the city’s motorists.
And vice versa, vehicles that pollute the environment the least will receive a discount of 15 euros per monthprovided it weighs less than 2,200 kg in the case of an electric vehicle and less than 1,000 kg in the case of a thermal vehicle.
The standard rate will now be 30 euros per month and will apply, in particular, to drivers of diesel vehicles weighing between 1,000 and 1,725 kg and plug-in hybrids weighing up to 1,900 kg.
According to Lyon City Hall, 20% of motorists in Lyon will automatically benefit from the reduced rate, while the vast majority, i.e. 75% of drivers, will have to pay the standard rate of €30.
City Hall will have access to all of this information, as a copy of the gray card must be provided to request a parking card that proves you live in the area.
What are the aids and exceptions?
Support measures and exemptions will also be introduced. Low-income households and large families with more than three children will benefit from the reduced rate, which applies to almost every second Lyon family and 60% of Lyon families.
Preferential pricing will apply to craftsmen and workers in trades essential to the normal functioning of the city, such as shops, medical workers, construction workers and tradesmen.
