Russia launched an extremely intense airstrike on Kiev early on Tuesday, using drones, cruise missiles and possibly ballistic missiles, city authorities said, as the Ukrainian capital suffered its eighth airstrike this month.Reuters.
Air warning sirens sounded almost all over Ukraine on Tuesday morning and echoed over Kyiv and the region for more than three hours.
“It was exceptional in its density – the maximum number of missile strikes in the shortest period of time,” Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported on Telegram.
“According to preliminary information, the vast majority of enemy objects in Kyiv’s airspace have been detected and destroyed!” he added.
As of press time, it was unclear how many Russian drones and missiles had been shot down over the city and whether any of them managed to hit their targets. Residents of the city said that they saw an active anti-aircraft defense system and heard dozens of explosions.
On Tuesday morning, debris was reported in the Obolonsky, Shevchenkivskyi, Solomyanskyi and Darnytskyi districts of Kyiv, Ukrainian authorities reported.
Unconfirmed footage that appeared on social networks shows what appears to be a cruise missile attack on the Ukrainian defense system:

Mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko said that debris set several cars on fire and damaged a building in the western Solomyan district of the capital. Three people were injured.
Klitschko reported that south of Boryspil air defense systems repelled the drone attack. The main civil airport of the capital is located in the city of Boryspil, located southeast of Kyiv, which is currently closed.
The military administration reported that in other areas the damage was insignificant, there was no information about possible victims.

After a weeks-long hiatus, Russia resumed long-range missile strikes in late April and has recently launched a flurry of strikes, often targeting Kiev. Ukraine has so far managed to repulse the vast majority of attacks.
