N. Dendias: We want a West-friendly and democratic Turkey

“We would like a West-friendly, democratic, strong economy, without financial crises. Türkiye“, – stressed the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Nikos Dendias in an interview earlier today on Alfa TV and added, “Which of the two will serve this will be decided by Turkish society.”

As he pointedly noted, “everything is more complicated than it seems, if we take the slogans of the parties.”

Greece’s attitude towards Turkey after the earthquakes, he pointed out, “has created a window of opportunity where there is no tension, no violations, no overflights, no aggressive rhetoric, no maritime incidents.”

This, he emphasized, “gives us the opportunity, after the elections in both countries, the two new governments, maybe with the renewed confidence of the world, will be the same, but they will be governments that have political capital to sit down and discuss the difference with us” .

“Do we believe that a solution will magically be found that has not been found for decades? The chances are not great, but we must try. And what this climate gives us is the opportunity to taste it without the constant tension that we have had so far,” he said and added:

“In any case, one of the main conditions that Greece has set so far in order to sit down for a conversation is that there should be no violations, no overflights, no aggressive rhetoric. Done, great done, let’s move from the small window to the big door.”

Referring to the alliances that Greece has built, he pointed out that they include the United States, France, a number of countries in the Arab region and a number of countries that believe in international law.

Regarding the elections in Greece, he stressed that for New Democracy the proposal is a package, no alternatives are offered: an independent New Democracy government led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“We do not pledge our main proposal to the society,” he stressed.
