Most of the vacant positions up for bid at Sunday’s special session of the residency are in surgical specialties and emergency medicine, said Health Minister Alexandru Rafila, who expressed hope that those who fill them will not be only temporary, but in order to complete studies and practice in these fields.

  • “We have about 1.5 candidates for each of these positions and there are specialties that have more vacancies, places and positions to be fair, so there are also two situations where there are two hospitals that have positions that are already announced as employment.
  • Most of the unemployed are in surgical specialties: 99 in surgery, more than 40 in orthopedics. The only thing that worries us and we hope to change this situation is related to emergency medicine. At least 95 positions of emergency medicine are not filled.
  • It is clear that there is something related to the attractiveness of this specialty and the difficulty, because it is a difficult specialty.
  • We propose that with the entry into force of the new Law on Education, universities will be given their rightful place in the training of emergency medicine doctors and that emergency medicine should be carried out in the same way as all other medical specialties in universities. and, accordingly, to the faculties of medicine and pharmacy,” Rafila said in a statement made at UMF “Carol Davila” in Bucharest.

He clarified that there are slightly more than 40 vacancies in family medicine, noting that thanks to the new framework contract, which will soon come into force, the income and professional attractiveness of this specialty will increase.

Minister Rafila added that as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Program, “consistent” efforts are being made to equip and renovate family medicine offices.

“In the next period, we will try to pilot certain projects of rethinking the way of carrying out activities and remuneration in the field of family medicine. Family medicine is not just a gateway to the system, it should be a specialty that solves most of the health problems of people in this country,” Alexandru Rafila noted.

Mass visitation of the residence

He emphasized the importance of stabilization in the position. “I think it’s important – stabilization of people and confidence that they can carry out their professional activities in a favorable environment from a professional point of view and with proper material comfort,” explained Rafila.

Rector of UMF “Carol Davila” Viorel Djinga said that after a period when most entrance and residency competitions were held at Romexpo, the exam is organized on Sunday at the university’s headquarters and there are few misses. Only 4% of candidates did not appear for the competition on Sunday.

  • “We propose starting in the fall from each discipline to make a scientific circle for better professional orientation of students, so that when they choose a specialty, after completing a clinical residency, they will be much better off. oriented
  • Also, there is no time left until autumn, there is already six months left and about two weeks and the method of the autumn exam should appear, but in the future, due to legislative changes, we will return to an exam or competition for two types of specialties: surgery and internal medicine, so that we can fill these places in surgery.
  • Unfortunately, I say this in quotes, most of our graduates are women. So, less about the surgical part, because you know very well that female graduates also think that they will have family problems, children and other elements that direct these graduates to perhaps more comfortable specialties,” Jinga added.

He noted that if such a differentiation at entry is proposed and approved, it will be done with different bibliographies for surgery and internal medicine.

Vice-rector Katalina Poyane added that the organization of this session was very welcome, expressing the hope that all 628 places and positions not submitted to the competition will be filled.

  • “A number of specialties, nationally, in some areas, are in short supply, and we hope that through this residency competition they will be taken care of, and in this way we can once again contribute to the strengthening of human resources in the field of health care, which we believe this is a priority.
  • Until this moment and we hope that until the end of the competition everything went according to the methodology, without incidents, and we hope that during today we will be able to announce the boarding final according to expectations,” she added.

Extraordinary session of the residence

On Sunday, 962 candidates registered for the extraordinary session of admission to clinical residency. They are vying for 628 health department seats and positions that remain vacant for the fall 2022 session, many of them in shortage specialties such as general surgery, emergency medicine, family medicine, and neonatology.

Candidates will have four hours to solve 200 questions in grid format. Those who score at least 60% of the highest score obtained in this competition will be declared passed.

Last autumn, 4,734 places and positions were put up for competition. (Agerpress)
