In cooperation with the British Red Cross, whose patron for 70 years was Queen Elizabeth II, The Defender 130 has been adapted to include advanced communication features. According to the report, Wales ranks penultimate in the UK for rural 4G coverage, so the Defender’s ability to stay connected will be key on the coast, in the mountains and in isolated areas of the region.
Connection to any area
As such, the car is equipped with a connected 4G antenna that provides a strong signal wherever it goes, a built-in phone, a VHF radio for communication and an advanced telematics system with GPS tracking. Everything is powered by a solar system installed on the roof which charges an auxiliary battery to power accessories when the engine is not running. Thus, this particular Def’ can remain connected even after stoppingwhich is important for the interventions for which it is intended.
Additional storage and advanced equipment
At the back, the trunk was deeply transformed also. Additional storage space has been created by removing the third row of seats from the Defender 130. A fitted drawer system allows teams to carry equipment such as blankets, food and first aid supplies, etc. Thus, the vehicle will be equipped to respond to all emergencies such as storms, floods, fires, frost, etc.
Anti-bacterial seat covers and battery-powered lights with charging points are also part of the adaptation for greater practicality, while a built-in water heater will allow the British Red Cross to provide hot drinks in times of crisis.
Ready to go anywhere
The Defender 130 is the latest version of the second-generation Defender. Compared to the classic five-door “110”, this version is 34 centimeters longer and reaches a height of 5.36 m! In the classic versions, the increased space on board makes it possible to add an additional multi-seater seat at the back, thus allowing to take up to eight passengers on board. And, of course, it’s equipped with all the electronic tricks of a classic Defender, allowing it to go far off the beaten track. Land Rover does not specify the engine of this particular model. In France, it is offered in D300 (3.0 liter diesel with 300 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque) and P400 (3.0 liter gasoline with 400 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque).
