
On average, a household spends 32 lei per year on postal items and 89 lei per year on parcels, and the most used providers are two private operators – Fan Courier and Cargus, followed by the state-owned company Poșta Română, a representative study shows. at the national level at the request of the Telecommunications Arbitrator (ANCOM).
According to the findings of a study conducted by Mercury Research and commissioned by ANCOM, 70% of postal users prefer delivery of parcels to their home or office, 16% – by automated systems, and 11% – at post offices. .

- “More than half (56%) of the respondents have used automatic systems (EasyBox, Pachetomat, etc.) in the last year, Romanians are ready to use them more and more, but only if they exist in the region where I am live,” said Eduard Lovin, vice president of ANCOM, on LinkedIn.
The study was conducted through online interviews with more than 1,450 respondents aged 16 and over who used postal services in the past 12 months.
Fan Courier and Cargus chosen for quality of service, Mail for prices
Fan-Courier is the most used provider for sending mail and parcels (chosen by 70-71% of respondents). This is followed by Cargus (used by 54-56% of respondents), Romanian Post (39% for parcels and 52% for correspondence) and Sameday (28-31%).
The remaining providers are used by less than 20% of respondents.
The main criteria for choosing suppliers are the quality of services, tariffs and reliability of cargo delivery.
Fan Courier and Cargus are chosen mainly for the quality of their services, and Poșta Română for their tariffs.
When deciding which supplier to choose for delivery, users contact the supplier directly (41%), get information from online platforms/intermediaries (36%) or listen to recommendations from relatives or friends (35%).
11% of respondents will not accept delays even if the delivery is free
43% of users of postal services make online purchases several times a month and 40% several times a year.
Delivery time is very important to most respondents.
Most users (75%) would accept slower delivery for less. 23% of them agree to a maximum of 1 day of delay, 32% to a maximum of 2 days and 20% to 3 days or more.
12% of users only accept slow shipping if it’s free, and 11% don’t accept delays even if shipping is free.
Respondents paid an average of 38 lei for their last order in a national online store. 12% of them had free shipping.
