The Russian armed forces are ready to repulse the offensive of the Ukrainian army in Zaporizhzhia and proceed to their own offensive, says the governor installed by the Russians in the occupied territories of Moscow in this region of southern Ukraine, TASS reports.

“Both the 58th Army and the 35th Army are ready to repulse the enemy’s offensive and, moreover, for a counteroffensive. I’m talking about our offensive today, because we have enough forces and resources,” Yevgeny Balytskyi said in an interview with the Russian Crimea-24 TV channel from Crimea.

He also stated that the Russian authorities in the Zaporizhia region are already working to ensure that “in the near future, when our troops liberate the temporarily occupied parts (without Ukrainians, according to this) of the Zaporizhia region,” the Moscow administration will be established here.

“We have already formed our budgets, we have fully prepared all groups of people, they are currently undergoing training in our territories,” said Balytskyi.

“We have no doubt that we will move forward,” he assured.

Russia is preparing for Victory Day

Despite his comments, most Western military analysts doubt that the Russian military will be able to sustain a major offensive after the heavy losses they suffered during the winter and spring campaign to capture the town of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region.

Balytskyi’s statements are most likely of a propaganda nature, and they were made a day before Russia’s celebration of Victory Day in World War II amid unprecedented anxiety and paranoia of recent domestic and frontline events.

Russian authorities in several regions near the border with Ukraine, including Crimea, which was illegally annexed in 2014, announced in advance that the celebrations would be canceled for security reasons.

Despite those fears, Russian media announced on Monday that President Vladimir Putin would host at least three foreign heads of state during the celebrations, after none of Russia’s allies attended last year’s Victory Day parade.
