The European Union is considering a proposal to impose sanctions on Chinese companies accused of providing materials that could be used to manufacture weapons to Russia for use in the war in Ukraine, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.
Seven Chinese companies are named in a new package of sanctions to be discussed by EU member states within a week, according to the FT, citing a European document seen by the newspaper.
According to his report, the list includes two companies based in mainland China (3HC Semiconductors, King-Pai Technology) and another five based in Hong Kong (Sinno Electronics, Sigma Technology, Asia Pacific Links, Tordan Industry, Alpha Trading Investments).
The European Commission did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment on the report.
Some companies, in particular King-Pai Technology, have already come under US sanctions, which accuse them of supplying equipment to Russian military-industrial complex enterprises.
Since the Kremlin ordered a military invasion of Ukraine more than 14 months ago, the EU has imposed 10 sets of sanctions against individuals and entities in Russia.
