its president Chechnya Ramzhan Kadyrov was awarded the Igor Kurchatov gold medal. The medal is awarded for special merits in the development of nuclear physics and nuclear energy and is one of the most important awards of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The medal was presented to Kadyrov by President of the National Research Center Kurchatov Institute Mikhail Kovalchuk during his visit to Grozny, the capital of Chechnya. Kovalchuk did not specify what exactly Kadyrov’s contribution to the development of nuclear physics and nuclear energy was. But he referred to the great successes of the region in the development of science and education.
“I am honored to receive such high recognition from such a renowned institution,” Kadyrov wrote in a Facebook post.
Kadyrov, who received more than 30 awards, was the first in the Chechen Republic to be awarded the title of Hero of the Chechen Republic in February 2023. He established the title himself last October. Decrees on awarding are signed by the president of Chechnya himself, therefore, we can conclude that he awarded himself.
