Launched in 2015, the Rolls-Royce Dawn is not the most common convertible on our streets, but it is certainly one of the most luxurious and exclusive. After 8 years of career, it is time for Goodwood to turn the page: this is the end of a glorious era, to dedicate itself to its electrified future.
“Dawn truly represents the joy of good company, the excitement of adventure, and the peace of quiet contemplation. Indeed, this car is a testament to the modern art of living, evoking the spirit of “dolce vita” in every detail. As production of the Dawn draws to a close, we can recall an extraordinary chapter in the brand’s history. This beautiful car perfectly embodies modern luxury while celebrating the brand’s founding principles and heritage.”– said Torsten Müller-Otwesch, Chairman and CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
Rolls-Royce Dawn: Rolls’ best-selling convertible
After the success of the Phantom VII and its Phantom Coupé and Phantom Drophead Coupé versions, Rolls-Royce was able to attract more and more young customers: to tempt them with a luxurious yet modern product, the British firm decided to create a new type of super luxury convertible for this new generation.
Three years earlier, Rolls-Royce launched its Wraith fastback coupe, but instead of a simple convertible, the brand’s designers took inspiration from the 1950s: 28 copies of the Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn coupe saw the light, and the brand decided to revive this iconic name Dawn to symbolize the dawn his rebirth
Inspired by 1950s and 60s living and the ‘sweet life’, the Rolls-Royce Dawn offers clean, flowing styling with 80% specific body panels compared to the Rolls-Royce Wraith. Goodwood wanted to create a luxurious and spacious cabin to accommodate 4 passengers in maximum comfort.
Rolls-Royce Dawn: the legendary V12 disappears
The roof mechanism was also the subject of intense debate: although it was originally supposed to be a retractable hard roof, the brand’s designers decided to preserve the romance of listening to raindrops falling on a fabric canvas. But this one is also made of cashmere and high-performance acoustic composites, which allowed it to achieve exceptional sound insulation, thus matching the sound insulation of the Wraith coupe.
Technically, the famous engine was housed under the hood of the Dawn. 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 with a capacity of 571 horsepower and 780 Nm of torquewhich offered near-silent operation typical of the brand, combined with a chassis that provides unparalleled comfort and smoothness of use.
In 2017, Rolls-Royce added a variation “Black Icon” to the Dawn range: as for the Ghost and Wraith, this trim is equipped with exclusive elements such as a new exhaust system or even an engine evolution that provides 30 additional horsepower to reach 600 horsepower and increase its torque to 840 Nm
