Ukrainian forces bombed the village Russian Bryansk region on the border with Ukraine Early this morning, the local governor said in a social media post, a day after the explosion that derailed a commercial train in the area.
“In the morning, the Armed Forces of Ukraine shelled the village of Kurkovichi in the Starodubsky district,” Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz said in his Telegram channel.
“There are no casualties. As a result of the bombing, a fire broke out in one of the residential buildings. All emergency services are working on the spot.”
Reuters was unable to independently confirm this report. Ukraine almost never publicly takes responsibility for terrorist attacks inside Russia and on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine. However, the army provides daily reports on the actions and movements of troops in combat areas.
According to Bogomaz, yesterday a freight train derailed as a result of the explosion of an unknown explosive device.
Sabotage
Russia has already experienced sabotage at military bases, recruiting centers and even on railway lines since the attack on Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.
But for the first time since then, such a spectacular crash was announced publicly.
A high-voltage line in the Leningrad region (northwest Russia) was damaged today by a device explosion, the local governor said, stressing that an investigation into “sabotage” had been launched.
Back in April, Alexander Bortnikov, head of the Russian Security Service (FSB), accused Ukraine and the West of trying to incite Russians to commit acts of sabotage and armed rebellion.
