Veronika Kudermetova beat Daria Kasatkina at WTA Madrid

Veronika Kudermetova (13 WTA) made a surprise in Madrid and knocked out Daria Kasatkina (8 WTA) in a 100% Russian duel.

The athlete, who passed compatriot Anastasia Potapova in the 3rd round, also defeated the eighth favorite of Madrid Daria Kasatkina.

It took Kudermetova almost 3 hours to get past Kasatkina at the end of the 3-set match.

The first set was a battle, with Kasatkina coming back from 4-1 down and 5-2 in favor of Kudermetova. Regardless, Veronica finished the action 1 7-5.

The second act saw a worthy response from Kasatkina, who dropped just one game and wrapped up the second set in just 35 minutes.

A decisive set followed, in which there was a fierce struggle. The two were separated by a tie-break, Kudermetova won.

Veronika Kudermetova will meet the winner of the duel between Jessica Pegula (3 WTA) and Martina Trevisan (20 WTA) in the quarters.
