The Prime Minister expressed hope that realism will prevail in the Turkish leadership after the elections in the country, Kyriakos Mitsotakisduring a discussion at the Delphi Economic Forum with a journalist “Financial Times» responsible for North and South America, Peter Spiegel.

The prime minister pointed out that the “red cards” from Erdogan did not help, stressing that “after the elections, we hope that realism will prevail and the Turkish leadership will realize that the only way to win is to get closer to the West.”

He categorically stressed that with Turkey “we are not discussing anything regarding our sovereignty and borders”, repeating that the country only accepts the discussion to determine the maritime zones. However, he added that “we can cooperate on other issues.”

On another question, he said that strategic cooperation between Greece and the United States it is also vital to American interests,” citing examples from the energy sector. Asked to comment on the US election, he declined to do so and limited himself to saying that “I have a good relationship with President Biden, as well as with President Trump.”

In response to a question about Greece’s position on war in Ukraine and given Greece’s traditionally good relationship with Russia, Mr Mitsotakis pointed out that “we have close ties with Russia, we have no hostility towards Russian citizens, but we have a problem with Putin’s aggression, which has caused chaos by its actions.
