For 25 years, the building of the Old Printing House at the intersection of Stadiou and Santarosa streets has been donated to the Municipality of Athens with the aim of transforming it into a space for art exhibitions and OPANDA events. The municipality will conduct a study for the restoration of the building based on the approved studies of the Ministry of the Interior to make the building functional, as well as issuing the necessary permits and drafting documents for the tender. project.

The cost of restoring the Old Printing House is estimated at 2.5 million euros and will be covered, in accordance with the program contract, from the resources of the Municipality of Athens and from new funding sources, national and European.

The building is connected with the history of the Greek state, as it is one of the first public buildings built in Athens in 1834 by the Bavarian architect Josef Hoffer. It housed the Royal and then the National Bureau of Printing and Lithography. In 1854, a fire destroyed its second floor, which was rebuilt by the architect Foivos Zukis in 1931. Later, a court of first instance operated at the same place, and for the last 23 years it has remained closed.

Under the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice, space will also be created for the “History of Greek Justice”.
