His film George Lanthimos “Poor Girls” will premiere on September 8, according to production company Searchlight, which is collaborating with the Greek artist for the second time.

In the film, the director of The Favorite returns with actress Emma Stone in the title role.

Stone, who is also producing the new film, plays Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Black. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella strives to learn.

“Hungry” for what she lacks, Bella breaks up with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a stylish fatherless lawyer, on an adventure that takes them across Earth’s continents. Freed from the prejudices of her time, Bella remains true to her cause of equality and emancipation.

The autumn release of Poor Things is planned relatively early, and it is possible that it will be shown at the Telluride festival or in Venice.

Released long before the pandemic, The Favorite was a big hit for Searchlight, grossing $34.3 million in America and over $95 million worldwide.
