Iryna Begu (WTA 35) advanced to the third round of the “WTA 1000” tournament in Madrid, defeating Karolina Mukhova (WTA 52) with a score of 6-4, 7-5.

Karolina Mukhova, Iryna Begu was eliminated at the WTA in Madrid

Going directly to the second round of the main draw of the Madrid tournament, Iryna Begu won after two sets and one hour and 53 minutes of play against a player from the Czech Republic.

The Romanian started well and led in the first set with a score of 4-1, taking advantage of two lost serves by Muhova.

The second set was tied, but Iryna managed to win before the tie-break, missing a match point.

For entering the third round of qualification, Iryna Begu will receive a check for 48,835 euros and 65 points in the WTA singles ranking.

In the next round, Iryna Begu will meet the American Shelby Rogers (38 WTA), who beat Ana Bohdan (61 WTA).

The WTA Mutua Madrid Open takes place from April 25 to May 7 on clay in the Caja Magica complex. It is in the WTA 1000 category, has a total prize money of US$7,652,174, and the title holder is Ons Jabert. Simona Halep won in 2016 and 2017.
