Herapetrite from the Delphic Forum: “Now the state is not the prerogative of every minister”

“Today, we have a clear governance system that is accountable and efficient, and where the state is no longer the domain of every minister, and policy is implemented from the bottom up, and not the other way around,” said the State Minister in charge of infrastructure and transport. George Herapetritisin a conversation with ERT journalist Christos Michaelides in the context of his work 8th Delphi Economic Forum.

The government operates on the basis of a unified management plan, where there is democratic accountability, where public administration has been modernized and where regular cabinet meetings are held.“, added Mr. herapetritis.

Mr. Gerapetritis noted that “90% of the cases handled by each ministry are now handled by politically discolored civil servants rather than by political bosses.”

Regarding the upcoming elections, he noted that “if we are elected to the government again, we will continue the reforms. We must become bolder and go faster. The assessment should extend to other areas as well.“.

Speaking about judicial reform, he stressed that the pace of administration of justice in our country is still slow and that this must change, because, among other things, this delay discourages investment.

Speaking about the education sector, he stressed that the state faced the problem of a shortage of teaching staff at all levels and 25,000 teachers were appointed in four years. Lastly, he said he had a complaint that teachers’ assessments had not been “accepted” by the entire political system.

He then noted that the government’s intentions, if elected, are to initiate a revision of the constitution and, in particular, Article 16, so that they can act – under strict conditions and guarantees – private universities in the country.
