Foreign Minister Nicos Dendias today sent a letter to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borel, regarding the extremely worrying situation in Sudan.

In his letter, Mr. Dendias notes, according to diplomatic sources, his special concern for the safety of the Greeks, including the two injured, and other European citizens in Sudan, also mentioning our country’s efforts to protect them and release them when circumstances permit.

N. Dendias also emphasizes the importance of coordinating the actions of the EU member states. and the main role of the High Representative in the context of efforts for the immediate and safe release of the Greeks, as well as other European citizens.

In addition, according to diplomatic sources, the Greek Foreign Minister informs about the position of Greece regarding the need for an immediate ceasefire and reconciliatory dialogue between all warring parties to ensure the stability and unity of Sudan. At the same time, he points to the paramount importance of Sudan’s security and territorial integrity to security in the Horn of Africa.
