On Monday, Poland and Ukraine held talks on the bans of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, which are trying to protect their farmers from the influx of cheaper Ukrainian grain.

“We are talking with both the EU and Ukraine to find a solution. (…) These are usually technical discussions to find a solution and allow this transit through Europe,” said Polish Minister of Agriculture Robert Telus.

A large amount of Ukrainian grain, which is cheaper than that produced in the European Union, remained in Central European countries due to logistical blockages, which affected prices and sales for local farmers, one of the affected countries being Romania.

We will remind, over the weekend Poland, Hungary and Slovakia banned the import of grain from Ukraine, and the European Commission qualified these unilateral trade measures as unacceptable.

According to TASR, the business of Slovak farmers cannot compete with cheap grain from Ukraine and risks not surviving.

The Minister of Agriculture of Ukraine, Mykola Solskyi, said that on Wednesday he will hold additional negotiations with Romania, and on Thursday – with Slovakia.
