Veterinary health inspectors issued fines of 240.00 lei and confiscated more than 350 kilograms of meat and meat products after inspections carried out on Thursday in the Bucharest area.

According to the press release of the National Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), cited by Agerpres, veterinary and food safety inspectors together with representatives of the General Inspectorate of the Police of Romania (IGPR) carried out a new control action at the level of the municipality of Bucharest in authorized or registered sanitary – veterinary and food warehouses for products of animal origin, agro-food markets, fairs, hypermarkets/supermarkets, divisions selling food products of animal and non-animal origin, for example, and in public catering establishments.

64 illegal sanctions in the amount of 240,000 lei were applied for the detected inconsistencies.

“According to the results of inspections, veterinary and sanitary inspectors seized more than 350 kg of meat and meat products. In addition, 113 vehicles were stopped and checked and fined 1,500 lei. 80 kg of fish and fish products (50 kg of fish and 30 kg of roe) were also seized,” ANSVSA representatives note.

According to the cited source, all confiscated products were sent to the authorized disposal units.

What violations did the veterinary inspectors find?

Identified deficiencies and sanctions relate to: improper storage and labeling of food products; expired products; sale of food products without observing hygienic conditions or in unregistered sanitary and veterinary premises; improper handling of food products; lack of documents confirming conformity or traceability of products; transportation of food products by unregistered sanitary and veterinary means of transport; transportation of unidentified animals by unauthorized sanitary and veterinary vehicles and without necessary documents.

Along with veterinary inspectors and food safety inspectors, police officers from police stations and the SBU and local police officers participated in the control measures.
