Gunther Steiner criticized Mick Schumacher: “It’s just ridiculous”
Criticized for the way he handled Mick’s situation during his two seasons with the American team, Steiner voiced his displeasure on the popular Netflix series Drive to Survive, and now he has revealed that the German driver’s accidents cost Haas two million euros.
Steiner says he still cannot explain Schumacher’s crash in free practice before the Japanese Grand Prix, for which Haas paid $700,000. Mick also had big problems in races in Saudi Arabia and Monaco.
“I don’t regret what you see (not in the series), I wasn’t an actor, I manage a team and I said what I had to say.
It happened on the damn starting lap, yes it was very wet, but everyone got the car to the pits. How many people could I hire with $700,000? And now where to get that money?
I can’t have a driver who isn’t confident they can drive safely on a slow lap. It’s bloody funny” – Gunter Steinerquoted by Marca.

Toto Wolff defends Mick Schumacher
Toto Wolff (Mercedes boss) was concerned by Steiner’s claims and stated that Schumacher would stand in for his team if there were any recalls due to Covid or other issues (Mick is the reserve driver).
“With Michael Schumacher in the pits, Steiner wouldn’t have dared to treat Mick like that. I think, and this worries me the most, that if my brother had been there, Steiner would have behaved differently, that would have been enough” – Toto Wolff.
