CNN on Ukraine: Spring counter-offensive plans changed after documents leaked

OUR Ukraine was forced to change some of her military plans ahead of a long-awaited counter-offensive due to a leak of classified US documents, CNN with reference to a source close to the Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky.

Ukrainian officials told Reuters on Friday that the allegedly leaked documents contain false information and resemble a Russian disinformation campaign.

US officials are scrambling to find the source of this leak of classified documents, covering a wide range of topics from Ukraine’s air defenses to the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.

Reuters points out that it has not independently verified the authenticity of the documents.

The strategic objectives remain “unchanged”.

Asked about the CNN report, presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said Ukraine’s strategic plans remain the same, but more specific tactical plans are always subject to change.

“There are strategic goals – they remain unchanged,” he told Reuters.

“But operational and tactical scenarios are constantly being refined based on an assessment of the situation on the battlefield, procurement of resources, intelligence data on enemy assets, etc.,” he said.

“At the moment it is impossible to overestimate the plans because they are being processed now,” he added.

Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, told Reuters: “We are working on our plans … We do not care about the opinion of people who have nothing to do with this … The circle of people who have extremely limited information.”

Some experts said the source of the leak could be American.

“Right now we are focusing on the U.S. leak scenario because many of the documents were only in U.S. hands,” Michael Mulroy, a former senior Pentagon official, told Reuters in an interview.
