The Diocese of Maramures and Setmar announced on Sunday in an official statement that the wooden church in Maramures style in the parish of the Borsa complex was completely burnt down.

“With deep concern for the community of Orthodox believers of the parish of the Borsha complex, I learned about the tragedy that just happened with the outbreak of a devastating fire in their wooden church in the Maramurian style. The church burned down completely and it was not possible to save much. The church is new, built in the last 30 years, so it is not a historical monument!”, – said the institution quoted by News.ro.

The diocese says they learned from information received from Višeului’s father, Mihai Chira, that the church was insured, meaning the damage would be largely covered.

“Protodeacon Vyshe, at the insistence of His Eminence Father Bishop Justin, immediately went to the scene to be with the parish priest John Constantine, the parish council and the faithful in this difficult situation they are experiencing on the big day. Mihai Chira will be involved in partnership with the city hall in determining the appropriate place for holding Holy Services during the Holy Passion week and services related to the Feast of the Resurrection of the Lord and all other services, until the construction of a new place of worship.” – says the bishopric.

The Diocese of Maramures and Satmar, the Archdiocese of Viseu, parishes and monasteries declare that they will be in solidarity with the difficult situation experienced by priests and believers in the Borşa complex just before the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ, and will support the construction of a new church.
