A Ukrainian drone crashed near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the Russian news agency RIA reported on Wednesday, citing a Russian official, as the head of the World Nuclear Organization is expected in Russia for talks on nuclear power plant safety, Reuters reports.
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Raphael Grossi, was due to travel to Russia’s Kaliningrad region on Wednesday, a week after visiting the Zaporizhzhia plant in southern Ukraine, which is controlled by Russian forces.
According to a Russian military officer quoted by RIA, a Polish-made drone weighing more than 2 kg fell near the plant. When exactly, the news agency did not specify.
Grossi insisted on a demilitarized zone around Europe’s largest nuclear facility, which has repeatedly been bombed by Russia and Ukraine, which Russia and Ukraine blame each other for.
