Bakhmut: Ukrainians assure that the city is not captured by the Russians

Since last summer, Russian troops have been trying to capture the city, which had a population of 70,000 before the war. Several thousand remained in their homes, despite street fighting, constant shelling and attempts by the Russian army and Wagner mercenaries – at great cost – to take the city.

The Russians say they have reached the center of the city, with Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin saying that he controls the town hall and therefore the city “from a legal point of view.” However, this assertion was rejected by Kiev and not confirmed by Moscow.

Even if Bakhmut falls, “we will bring him back,” the Ukrainian soldier assures, citing Kherson, a large city in southern Ukraine that was recaptured by the Ukrainians last November, as an example.
