In a new video published on social networks by the Ukrainian military, it can be seen that they received a new type of American-made missile with remarkable capabilities.

According to the administrators of the Ukraine Weapons Tracker page, it is a “family” missile TOW (“Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided”) model BGM-71H-1-RF TOW BB.

Controlled by radio frequencies, these missiles were designed for use against fortified positions, easily penetrating walls up to 20 centimeters thick, even when doubly reinforced.

However, in this case, the Ukrainian military tested the missile on what appeared to be a Russian armored vehicle at the edge of the forest (TOW missiles were originally anti-tank missiles), and the result was impressive, as emphasized by the exclamation of one of the Ukrainian soldiers even in the last seconds of the recording.

The recording also shows that the missile launcher was installed on a Humvee vehicle, which Ukraine also received from the United States.

Preparation for the spring offensive of the Ukrainian army?

It is interesting that this video appeared on social networks against the background of increasingly persistent rumors about the imminent start of the long-awaited spring offensive of the Ukrainian army.

Asked about this in an interview with the Estonian Broadcasting Corporation, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov softened the speculation somewhat, saying that the offensive “depends on weather conditions.”

“In the spring, we have a very wet field. And you know, you can use, for example, only tracked machinery,” he explained.

It was also a problem for Ukrainian forces during the Kherson counteroffensive, when the infamous “snowfall,” as the rainy season is called in Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus, brought Ukrainian attacks to a temporary halt.

However, Reznikov said on Wednesday that Ukraine’s new offensive could be launched within the next two months and that the army also wants to use the new Leopard 2 tanks received from the West as part of it.

His comments came after a video surfaced on social media earlier Wednesday showing Ukraine mobilizing a large number of tanks and armored vehicles somewhere in the country.

A missile for breaking through the defense lines of Russia

The appearance on the record of the BGM-71H-1-RF TOW BB missile is interesting in that it can be used precisely against the fortifications built by the Russians within the defensive lines prepared by Vladimir Putin’s army.

Numerous photos and videos that appeared on social networks since last fall showed that Russian troops have begun building fortified defense lines in almost all of the occupied territories, from Crimea in the south to Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Luhansk in the north.

In some cases, Russia has also built fortifications in areas where Ukraine is unlikely to ever attack, while Kyiv has repeatedly assured the West that it will not attack Russian territory, but only liberate its own territories illegally occupied by Moscow.

Carefully prepared fortifications were one of the big problems Ukrainian forces faced during the Kherson counteroffensive as well, with some Kyiv soldiers recounting how Russian tanks quickly moved out of them to fire at them before retreating back into the cover of almost invulnerable positions.

The Ukrainian military, who spoke to Western journalists who were allowed to visit the frontline areas, said that these deep and fortified defensive lines were one of the main reasons why they suffered huge losses in the first stage of the Kherson counteroffensive.
