For media giant Disney, the “real” reality is much more complicated than the virtual one. The company eliminated a division that was supposed to create programs for the metaverse as part of a broad cost-cutting plan. Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg is one of the few who believe that the meta universe can make money and succeed.

The Wall Street Journal wrote that Disney is shutting down a division created to develop strategies for this virtual universe, which will be accessible through VR headsets.

The department had 50 employees tasked with finding ways to create interactive stories based on the group’s vast video library.

Disney recently announced that it will begin layoffs this week as part of the first of three rounds of layoffs that will take place by early summer, resulting in the elimination of 7,000 jobs.

Last month, the group said it planned to cut $5.5 billion in spending, including $3 billion in content.
