According to the PwC CEO Survey 2023, the majority of CEOs in Romania (69%) believe that labor and skills shortages will have a significant or very significant impact on the profitability of the industry in which they work in the next ten years. Concerns about the performance of the workforce are not new, but they are becoming more acute as demographic changes and the impact of new technologies become more visible. Compared to company managers from other countries, Romanian companies are more concerned about the workforce situation. A synthesis of the opinions of this year’s respondents will be found in the PwC Romania CEO Survey report, which will be released at the conference on March 29.
“Our global analysis shows that there is a mismatch between the current skills of workers and the needs of employers generated by new technologies. In many economies, available jobs cannot be filled due to skills shortages. In part, this situation can be explained by the extremely rapid development of technology, which formal and non-formal education has not kept up with. Another reason is demographics, whether we’re talking about aging populations, especially in developed countries, but also in developing countries, or whether we’re talking about population mobility. Romania is in a fragile situation from both perspectives, and the role of companies and the government is to find training and education programs to close the gap between labor market needs and employee training,” says Dinu Bumbecea, Country Managing Partner. , PwC Romania.

Serhiy Manya, CEO of BCR: “The economy is the one that best shows us that everything is temporary and cyclical, even when we face difficult circumstances. But regardless of evolution, strategic vision and adaptability make the difference. (…) I believe that it is our aspirations that shape society, and together we can build a fair future that prepares us for the longevity economy. A future in which we will enjoy intergenerational solidarity, where younger generations will be well trained, feel valued and built in Romania, and the elderly will receive social protection.” You can read the full answers from the interview here.
François Block, CEO of BRD Groupe Société Générale: “Romania has changed a lot in recent years, and it has changed for the better. She grew up because she knew how to learn from experiences that negatively marked her and was able to finally achieve a level of resilience that allows her to navigate the modern world relatively safely. Romanian companies already know what the succession of economic cycles means, consisting of growth, slowdown and even crisis on a regional, continental and global scale, and they are ready to deal with them. In addition, Romania is a developing country, a member of the Euro-Atlantic community, a safe place for investments. You can read the full answers from the interview here.
Kalin Kostinas, Deputy CEO of Profi Rom Food: “We are and will be more focused on supplies from Romanian producers, which has two advantages: supporting the local economic environment and reducing the risk of disruptions in the supply chain, as well as a positive impact on the environment. We are motivated by the fact that we are a flexible organization that adapts easily, and partnering with local producers confirms that this is a healthy way to develop a sustainable and long-term business.”
