Edi Iordenescu spoke about the motivation with which the Romanian team starts this new qualification campaign, he praised Andorra for their determination and clarified that the only option is to be present at Euro 2024.

“We look at this beginning of the campaign with enthusiasm, with good energy, with hope. But these things are not enough. We have to be focused, there are many good things we saw in Andorra and please don’t fall into the trap of analyzing only the opponent without context. We have to arrange ourselves so that tomorrow we can bring three points for the national team.

I cannot comment on players who are not with us at the moment. The door to the national team is open to any player, but it would be disrespectful for me to talk about players who are not here. The responsibility lies with me. The decision is mine. After these matches, I will analyze the games, see what has appeared in the public space, what has been published, and if I think that clarifications need to be made, I will make them.

We want to build a certain core with which to move forward. The campaign is very short and there won’t be many changes. Do we risk leaving talent? It’s possible, but I’m guessing too. The door is open to anyone, but it will not be so easy to enter. I want continuity, and I won’t be able to do that if I’m jumping from one activity to another. I made certain decisions that I don’t like either, but they were necessary. And I assumed them. Since I came, I had a clear language, who understood it here, who did not…

Rest assured, when I made these decisions, I was well aware that there would be a wave of criticism, and I took all of that into account.

Andorra is a team with a big heart that knows how to suffer, it is a team that has achieved certain results that have attracted attention and which we cannot ignore. Therefore, my statements and optimism are not enough for victory.

I disagree with those who say this is an extremely affordable group, we’ve been home for eight years now so…. Regarding the future, if the team does not qualify for the Euros, I will no longer be the coach of the Romanian national team, because that is what is written in the contract.

After all, in tomorrow’s match I would like to see a mentality, pride for my players and let’s not forget that we are Romanians and we owe a lot to our fans.” – said Edward Jordanescu at the press conference, reports News.ro.
