“Two hundred and two years since the Greek Revolution, we honor the popular uprising for freedom, independence, democracy and justice.

This was a turning point in the history of the Greek nation for the establishment of the Hellenic Republic. At that moment, political expectations and people’s dreams of a new life condensed. Throwing off the Turkish yoke, the Greek revolution inspired other peoples with the heroism of the fighters of the 21st year, causing international admiration that reached the notorious philhellenic movement.

Since then, many generations of Greek citizens have shaped a Greece that, despite upheavals, tragedies, and occasional anti-democratic interventions, has been crowned with progress. Over the course of two hundred years, the Hellenic Republic has gradually turned towards democratic values, the rule of law and genuine justice.

And today the direction is the same for the Greece of our future.”
