Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has criticized UK Home Secretary Swella Braverman, calling his country’s ban on migrants a “shameful” moment for British politics.
Recall, the Prime Minister of Albania criticized London in November last year, noting that the statements of the British Foreign Office and other officials are discriminatory against Albanian citizens.
Edi Rama, who is in the UK and is expected to meet Rishi Sunak this afternoon, said Braverman’s comments last year about Albanian migrants crossing the English Channel in small boats could be considered a crime in and of themselves.
“Unfortunately, we have seen how we and our community have been singled out in this country for political reasons. It was a very, very awkward moment for British politics,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
“What has been said by members of the Cabinet, starting with the Home Secretary, is the isolation of our community, which does not represent the UK at all,” he said.
At the time, the UK Home Secretary faced harsh criticism for calling the arrival of asylum seekers an invasion, with politicians across the political spectrum warning of the dangers of using inflammatory rhetoric.
