Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy once again called on Europe to speed up arms deliveries to his country, including long-range missiles and more modern aircraft, Reuters reports.
In a long and poignant video address to EU leaders from a train, a visibly frustrated Zelenskyi said the bloc’s 27 countries must take action to stop Russia more than a year after it invaded Ukraine.
In particular, he repeated calls for long-range missiles, more ammunition and more modern aircraft, and said the EU should speed up Ukraine’s accession process.
“If Europe waits, evil may have time to regroup and prepare for years of war. It is within your power to prevent this,” he said during EU leaders’ talks with UN chief Antonio Guterres.
He said that “if our joint efforts are resolutely aimed at the victory of Ukraine, the victory will be achieved already this year,” reports CNN.
“No one knows for sure how long the war will last and which battles will bring us success faster and which will require more effort. But it is clear that if there are no delays or stagnation in our cooperation, if our joint efforts are resolutely aimed at the victory of Ukraine, the victory will be achieved already this year,” Zelenskyy said at the meeting of the European Council.
