Denver police are looking for a high school student who shot two adults today at East High School in City Park.
The incident occurred around 10:00 am (local time, 6:00 pm Greek time) when two school officials subjected the student in question to a physical check for weapons in accordance with security protocol, authorities said.
Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said at a press conference that the student’s identity has been revealed to law enforcement, who are looking for him, but will not release his details.
According to Ron Thomas, when staff stopped the student to undress him, several shots were fired. He added that no weapons have yet been found.
Two victims were taken to the hospital. One underwent surgery and is in critical condition. The second is seriously injured, but doctors believe that nothing threatens his life, the Denver police chief said at a press conference.
East High School has temporarily suspended operations and will have two armed police officers stationed at its entrance when it reopens, Superintendent Alex Marrero said.
Dozens of incidents of firearms were reported in US schools last year. In May, an 18-year-old killed 19 children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas.
