
A gang accused of blowing up bank ATMs and stealing cars in Attica has been dismantled by the Property Crime Department of the Attica Security Authority.
According to EL.AS., in the course of an organized operation carried out in the regions of Attica, two men were detained as members of a criminal organization.
A criminal case has been opened against them for a criminal organization, aggravated theft in complicity and continuation, explosions in complicity and other offenses related to explosives, forgery of documents, and damage to foreign property.
As a result of a police investigation, the two arrested have formed a gang since May 2022 with the aim of stealing bank ATMs using explosives and stealing cars to use them in their criminal activities.
The two defendants, according to EL.AS, had particular experience with the use of solid explosives, which they adapted to makeshift metal structures so that they could be injected into ATMs through the money extraction slot. Then they blew up the device and took out the boxes of money.
For their escape and in order to make it difficult for the prosecution authorities to locate them, they used stolen cars.
During the search of the defendants, as well as as a result of searches carried out in houses and various places, among other things, 30 hunting cartridges, 9 mobile phones and SIM cards, hacking tools, documents from stolen cars, as well as handwritten notes were found. found and confiscated.
At the moment, as a result of a police investigation, the involvement of members of the organization in at least one hacking of an ATM in Attica, as well as in the theft of 8 cars, 7 of which were discovered and returned to their owners, has been established.
According to EL.AS., the financial benefit received by the gang exceeds the monetary amount of 180,000 euros.
It is noted that the two men in the past were accused of a number of crimes, such as robbery, theft, violations of laws on weapons and drugs.
The arrested were taken to the district attorney of Athens, the police investigation continues.
