On Monday, Norway announced that it had delivered eight promised Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, a contribution that, along with other allies, will be “crucial” for the next Ukrainian counteroffensive.

“All eight Leo (Leopard) 2 are in Ukraine,” Norwegian army spokeswoman Steen Barclay Hafland said in response to AFP, Agerpres reports.

In February, the Scandinavian country announced that it would supply Ukraine with eight of its Leopard 2A4 tanks, the penultimate generation model, which it will replace for its own needs with more modern Leopard 2A7 tanks, of which it recently ordered 54.

“For Ukraine, the donation of battle tanks will be critical to its ability to conduct offensive operations and retake territories occupied by Russia,” said Norwegian Army mechanized battalion commander Lt. Col. Lars Jensen. talked

In addition to tanks, Norway has pledged to provide Kyiv with up to four supplies, ammunition and spare parts.

Ukrainian crews assigned to operate Leopard 2 tanks are currently undergoing training in Poland under the auspices of the European Union, the Norwegian army said.

Other Western countries, such as Poland, Germany, Sweden, Spain, Finland and Canada, have supplied or promised Ukraine Leopard tanks to counter the Russian invasion.
