Alki’s murder trial: Coroner testifies. She urged the parents of the 19-year-old to leave the room

He urged his parents to leave the courtroom due to the “cruelty” of what he would testify to. Alki Campanu forensic expert Leda – Kalliopi Kovatsis, whose examination continues on the 15th day, at the Thessaloniki Mixed Jury Trial of 12 defendants for killing a 19-year-old student and injuring two of his friends, after a brutal attack with the encouragement of fans received early in the morning February 1, 2022 in Harilau.

“Because what we are about to hear is very difficult for everyone, I advise, as a mother, that the parents leave the room,” said the medical examiner and director of the AUTH forensic toxicology laboratory at the beginning of her testimony. . In fact, Alka’s parents left the criminal courtroom, but the above admonishing advice provoked a reaction from defenders who said that the witness “is not in court as a mother,” but in her scientific capacity and to testify. for the forensic results he found while examining Alka’s body and the injuries of two of his friends.

Alki cause of death

After showing pictures of Alka’s injuries and consulting her computer records, the medical examiner confirmed her report that the death of the 19-year-old girl was “due to fatal injuries to the lower extremities and craniocerebral trauma.”

In particular, speaking about traumatic brain injuries, she found “two fractures, two foci of bleeding and one cerebral edema”, and on the latter she said that “to save him, I had to do a craniotomy.” As a result of the forensic medical examination, as the witness testified, it turned out that the external appearance of the head differed from the internal one. “Injuries screamed not from the outside, but from the inside,” he characteristically noted, but could not identify the organs that caused specific injuries, or what some of them came from (for example, a fall).

He then analyzed injuries to the lower extremities, two of which caused profuse bleeding in the right thigh. As for the wounds in this particular place, he said that they were incompatible with the sickle and carabite. On the contrary, with regard to the wounds on the left thigh, he did not exclude the possibility that they were caused by a sickle, adding, however, that they could not in themselves be the cause of death.

When asked by the court about the weapons used by the criminals based on the conclusions of the forensic medical examination, the witness replied that she had found three different cutting and threading tools and at least two blunt tools. “Probably there were more, but this is what I could find,” he said.

“It took a lot of effort to contact them”

As regards the other two injured (the first more serious), Ms Kovacis called the injuries sustained by them dangerous. Conveying to the court the state they were in when he met them at the Papanicolaou Hospital, three days after the attack, he said: “They were in a bad psychological state. I was talking to them, and they were looking at the ceiling. It took a lot of effort to contact them.”

The prosecutor asked to see Alka’s clothes

The District Attorney filed a request, which was accepted, to present as “evidence” the clothing Alkis wore during the bloody attack to compare it to the wounds on his body. As it became known, the clothes are in storage in the court of first instance.

The court adjourned the case for a short time, and after the presentation of evidence, the proceedings continued.
