
Fiat will enter the North African market. From March 21 six models of the Italian brand will be available for sale in Algeria. This is the first step in an even broader strategy for the development of the entire region.
After all, in addition to creating a commercial network, Fiat will open a new plant in the country, a factory that will provide the bulk of the production of models destined for the Middle East and Africa. At this new plant, Fiat will, in particular, produce the Fiat 500 Hybrid, a model that until now was produced at the Polish plant in Tychy.
Stellantis ambitions in Africa
The announcement follows an agreement signed in November 2022 with the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, which gave the green light to the development of Fiat’s industrial activities, after-sales service and spare parts. This is the “first stage” for Fiat in Algeria, p a number of investments worth more than 200 million euros and which is part of the strategic plan “Dare Forward 2030”.
Stellantis plans to sell one million vehicles in the Middle East and Africa by 2030, with regional production in these markets accounting for around 70%.
The Tafraoui-Orano plant will be completed in August 2023 the first 500 will roll off production lines at the end of the year. As a reminder, the Algerian plant should become one of the main production sites for the Fiat 500, considering that between 2023 and 2024 the Polish plant in Tychy will be closed to soon accommodate the production of the Fiat 600, Jeep Avenger and the future compact car. By 2026, the Algiers plant will have 2,000 new jobs and a production capacity of 90,000 vehicles per year with four different models. To support the development of the brand, the sales and after-sales service network will cover 28 provinces of Algeria by the end of 2023.
Which Fiat will be sold in Algeria?
The first 500 “Made in Algeria” will be the 500 in a hybrid version (the first hybrid car to hit the Algerian market), with a “Dolcevita” version available in the colors of the Italian and Algerian flags: Verde. Rugiada, Bianco Gelato and Rosso Passione.
Then there will be the 500X (with a 140 hp petrol engine) and the Tipo with a 110 hp micro-hybrid engine. The Doblò, Scudo and Ducato utilities will also be available.
