The total budget for the Recycling – Water Heater Replacement program is 100 million euros and, according to the Ministry of Environment and Energy, about 120,000 Greek households will benefit in total, for which at least 210 million tons will be reduced. The program guide, pre-released yesterday by the Interior Ministry, provides for subsidies based on three levels of income and the size of the water heater being replaced.

• For the first category with an income of up to 5,000 euros, the subsidy is 60% and the maximum amount is 904.84 euros for water heaters with a volume of more than 186 liters, 771.77 euros for a water heater with a volume of 136-185 liters and 612.10 euros for a water heater. water heater 110-135 liters.

To be able to subsidize replacement water heaters, they must have a capacity of more than 40 liters. It is obligatory to return the replaced water heaters for recycling. They must be in working order prior to their removal, which will be confirmed after a general visual inspection, and placement in the residence specified in the grant application. Potential beneficiaries of the program are households who have installed an electric water heater in their home (rather than in a commercial space). Applications are submitted by individuals born before January 1, 2006 and permanently residing in Greece.

Each individual can only submit one application. Households that have applied for or joined another energy saving program (“Economico – Autonomou” or “Ecoeconomio 2021”) are excluded from the program. Each beneficiary will receive a voucher which they can redeem at a provider of their choice.

30% of the total public spending is reserved for the first category of the poor, and will be distributed by geographic regions to ensure the same percentage of successful applicants in each region. Criteria other than income (members with disabilities, single-parent families, dependent members) are also taken into account to evaluate applications.

If the scores are the same for all criteria, the time of application submission is taken into account.
