Roughly 22 years after its release, the creator of the award-winning film “Honey“or otherwise”Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amelie Poulainit turned out that the heroine is actually a KGB spy.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s 2001 film was loved by cinephiles around the world and managed to become one of the biggest successes in international cinema for a French film.

But from the day of its premiere in cinemas, the romantic comedy with Audrey Tautou in the title role, in addition to fans of the plot, colors and music of Jan Tiersen, also had “opponents” who claim that the film romanticizes Paris, presenting it in the highest degree idyllic. But even those who resist the fairy tale depiction of the French capital and the fantasy elements in the plot did not expect the development of the central character.

Genet recently revealed Amélie’s true story in a new six-minute film titled La véritable histoire d’Amélie Poulain. In a short film project, he admits that Amelie is not the kind waitress we once knew, but a spy hired by the KGB.

The clip also became the director’s first post (“Delicatessen”, “Endless Engagements”, “Casanova”) on his new Instagram profile.

The director of the film, which consists of iconic scenes from the film re-arranged to showcase Amelie’s espionage techniques, stresses the importance of editing during production. It also shows how images can be reused in new scenarios. The film winks unmistakably at the film editing process in the editing room.

The story follows a shy waitress, Amelie, who decides to change the lives of the people around her for the better. But later she will try to make her life better.
