The Ukrainian military has almost completed training on Leopard 2 tanks in Münster, Germany, and according to them, driving these combat vehicles “is like driving a Mercedes,” according to CNN.
A spokesman for the special training command of the Bundeswehr told CNN that after the completion of the training, Germany will soon be able to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. So far, Germany has promised to supply Ukraine with 18 of the newest Leopard 2 tanks of the A6 model.
The spokesman noted that the Ukrainian military was “highly motivated” and used the five-week training “more than effectively.”
According to him, during the last five weeks, soldiers have been training 12-14 hours a day, six days a week. Soldiers were trained as drivers, gunners, technicians, commanders and service personnel.
The soldiers were first trained to operate the battle tank as drivers and commanders, the spokesman said, adding that the soldiers said that driving the Leopard 2 tank was like “driving a Mercedes”.
On Monday, the soldiers completed their final marksmanship training, and according to a spokesman, the soldiers achieved 82 to 85 percent accuracy in combat conditions.
“This is a very good result,” he said, adding that training on the simulator significantly increased the fighters’ progress.
The Bundeswehr Special Training Command aims to train 9,000 Ukrainian soldiers in 2023, after training 1,100 in 2022.
